Rangers Winterball Roundup – 11/1

Red-hot Saguaros shortstop Hanser Alberto posted his fifth consecutive multi-hit effort on Thursday. The 20-year-old prospect went 2-for-4 with his second triple, bringing him to 12-for-20 in those five games.

Alberto now sports a .390/.422/.488 slash line through 12 total Arizona Fall League contests.

Cleanup-hitting first baseman Chris McGuiness (.288/.386/.508 in 16 games) was 2-for-5 with his fourth double. He also drove home a run and struck out once.

Submarining reliever Ben Rowen (5.63 ERA/.219 BAA) worked two scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out one. The 23-year-old righty has the following stat-line in nine appearances––8.0 ip, 7 h, 5 er, 4 bb, 5 k.

Dominican Winter League

Thursday’s action-packed rivalry game between Licey and the Aguilas Cibaenas took 10 innings and more than four hours to be decided.

Tigres del Licey starting pitcher Chad Bell threw just 50 pitches over five innings. The left-hander yielded one unearned run on three hits, striking out four without issuing a walk.

After coughing up four runs in two-thirds of an inning during his first Dominican Winter League outing, Bell has given up just an unearned run over seven innings in his last two games.

Centerfielder Leonys Martin, left fielder Engel Beltre, and third baseman Mike Olt were all featured in the Leones’ lineup on Thursday.

Although Licey went on to win, Martin and Beltre both committed potentially costly fielding errors in the late innings. Martin was 1-for-4 with his second home run while Beltre was hitless in two at-bats. Olt reached base three times in four trips, getting a double and two walks.

Venezuelan Winter League

Getting the start in center field for the Cardenales de Lara on Thursday, Guilder Rodriguez went hitless in two at-bats before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.

La Guaira lefty reliever Joe Ortiz hurled his sixth consecutive scoreless appearance, working two-thirds of an inning without allowing a run. He gave up one single.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

La Guaira’s versatile Alex Gonzalez batted leadoff and played at second base on Thursday. The Venezuela native had a single and two walks in four plate appearances. He also stole a base and was caught stealing.

Batting leadoff and playing center field for the Caimanes, youngster Diego Cedeno was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks.

Caracas second baseman Santiago Chirino remained hot by producing two singles and a base on balls in five plate appearances.

For the second consecutive day, Magallanes third baseman Elio Castillo singled once in four trips.

The Tiburones’ Jhonny Gomez went 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts.

No Rangers appeared in Mexico on Thursday, as both Jose Felix (Guasave) and Joey Butler (Mazatlan) got the day off.
