Back to Square One

Kain Daub made a surprising decision over the summer, but he acted a little to fast. This 2014 linebacker out of Florida has backed off his commitment to LSU and he talks about where he stands now right here.

"I just committed too early," Kain Daub told Scout early Tuesday morning. "I rushed things a little and I have decided to open things back up. I am not committed to LSU anymore."

Daub now wants to take things much slower, go through the entire process, and make sure of things before he commits again.

"I am just looking at all of my options again. I am going to take a lot of visits in the spring and summer, I am going to attend some camps, and I am going to take my official visits before making my decision. I just want to start over again."

Some schools he mentioned when asked about potential visits/camps were Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, and USC.

All have offered the 6-foot-3, 230 pound junior out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood and the Trojans recently pulled the trigger.

"I talked to USC on the phone this past weekend and they offered me a scholarship. I was a little surprised by the offer to be honest. I did not really see it coming, so it was pretty exciting. I do not know a lot about them yet, but I will get out there to check them out."

Lane Kiffin's program is now in the mix for this Scout300 linebacker in the 2014 class, but the Tigers of LSU still have the edge with 15 months to go.

"I want to keep LSU as the No. 1 school on my list," Daub said. "They have a great program, I like their coaches, and they are still a school high on my list. They really stepped up and played well against Alabama Saturday and I still really like them."

Scout currently ranks Daub as the No. 5 middle linebacker in the 2014 class.
