Season still going for Gerry

There are two Nebraska home games left this year and all of Nebraska's commitments except for three have made it into Lincoln for their official visit. Nathan Gerry, one of the three, isn't sure when his official visit might be because of the success of his high school team.

Nebraska commitment Nathan Gerry and his Sioux Falls (S.D.) Washington team have been rolling this season and this weekend they should wrap it up. Gerry says that his team has amassed a perfect record so far heading into the championship game.

"We just played our semi-final game," Gerry said. "We won 49-3. We made it to the championship. We are 11-0 and rated #1. I am playing safety, some outside linebacker and also wide receiver on offense."

Gerry was able to make it to Lincoln for the Michigan game as an unofficial visitor, but has been unable to clear a weekend for his official visit. This weekend was supposed to be that weekend however Gerry will have to look for another weekend because of the championship game.

"No, I was going to come in this weekend for Penn State, but I can't because of the championship game. I am also pushed for time with my dad's schedule because he's the head football trainer at Augustana."

While Gerry hasn't been in Lincoln as much as he's wanted to be this fall he has been watching. He says that Nebraska wasn't playing up to expectations at the start, but they have been coming around.

"I think that they are having a pretty good season. I thought at the beginning of the year that they were not playing up to their expectations. They have stepped up and their defense looks better. I think that they are doing good."

Nebraska is definitely looking for some consistency at the safety spot as well as bigger physical bodies to come into the box with. Gerry thinks that he's being pegged more to be that kind of guy while the other safety in the class looks more like a centerfield type.

"I see myself as their downhill style safety. I think that they call theirs strong and free. I think that with Marcus McWilson going there too that he's a better coverage guy and see myself coming down. That's where I see myself now."

Gerry says that there was a push by some teams right after he committed to Nebraska. All of the teams have backed off though about a week after he committed. "At first, for about the first week, but after that I really haven't spoken to anyone about it. They all have stopped recruiting me."

Although Gerry hasn't been on his official visit yet he still stays in touch with one of the Nebraska commitments. In fact, he says that they talk nearly every day. He also got a chance to see another on his unofficial visit and said it was good to see him.

"I talk to Josh Banderas almost every day. We really just goof around. I saw A.J. Natter at the Michigan game and spoke to him there. That was good to do."
