Tale of Two Halves

Lafayette, La. – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team came out early with blazing hot shooting from the three-point line in the first half to build a 69-27 halftime lead over Loyola-New Orleans. The Cajun's shooting would go cold in the second half allowing Loyola back into the game before closing out the game 92-72 in the Cajun Dome Tuesday night.

UL jumped out early in tonight's exhibition game, shooting (14-18) from behind the three point line in the first half to build a 69-27 lead going into halftime.

But it would be the proverbial tale of two halves as the Cajuns came out in the second half shooting the ball cold and struggled in their half court offense.

After shooting (26-36) from the court in the first half, the Cajuns was a less than impressive (8-29) shooting for .27% from the floor, including just 2-for -13 from behind the three-point line.

Junior guard Bryant Mbamalu scored 18 points and freshman Shawn Long chipped in with 17 points and 8 rebounds for the Cajuns. Freshmen Kasey Shepherd 9 points and Steven Wronkoski 8 points, and senior Alan-Michael Thompson 10 points all added to the scoring load for Louisiana.

Head Coach Bob Marlin commented about his team's efforts from the floor against Loyola after the game.

"I have said all along that the three-point shot should be a weapon for us this season and tonight was a great example," Marlin stated. "We have seven guys on this team who I feel comfortable when they get an open three and all seven of them made shots tonight."

"I thought we made good decisions with the ball on offense and did a nice job of passing to the open man in the first half. We got a lot of open shots and converted them from the floor."

The Cajuns will open the 2012-13 regular season against Oakland Sunday, November 11th at 4:00 p.m. in the Cajun Dome.
