Gilmore chooses LSU
It came down to LSU and Florida for Greg Gilmore and at the end of the day he listened to what that gut feeling was telling him. "I chose (LSU) because of the opportunities there, good coaches – I love them all – good atmosphere. I feel that the school is the best for me, a good gut feeling," he said. "Honestly, there's no difference between LSU and Florida, it was just one of the gut feelings that I got that LSU would be a good opportunity quicker than at Florida." Gilmore had also been thinking hard about Oklahoma, but in the end it came down to the Tigers and the Gators. It was a decision he thought long and hard about. "What I had to do was sit there and think, ‘what would be the biggest what-if?' The biggest what-if for me would be if I went to Florida and wondered, ‘what-if I went to LSU?' The what-if of going LSU is a little smaller than the what-if of going to Florida," he said. "I'm still going to be thinking about it in the corner of my mind, the what-ifs, but I'm pretty solid." The 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive tackle said he's completely shutting his recruitment down and doesn't plan on taking any other visits. Gilmore admits it was not easy to tell coaches at other programs he'd be heading to LSU, but it was great to tell his future Tiger coaches he was in. "(The coaches) were pretty happy. They're probably jumping up and down right now, they've got some d-tackles that can play pretty early," he said. "They're going to get a guy that's going to go in there and work hard and try to do what's best for their team." Gilmore says he's excited to get to LSU and contribute, but he's expecting big things from the program in the future. "They have a pretty young offense, so I think in the near future, they'll be scoring a lot of points on offense. That will help us out. I think this year the veteran defense will help the young offense and I think the veteran offense will help the young defense get better," he said. Gilmore now turns his attention back to finishing his senior year strong. "I'm most excited about having this thing done with, I'm tired of recruiting. I'm ready to get back in the rhythm of school and making sure I qualify and get bigger in the weight room."
