Sykes Gives Latest
It's been a busy season for Oak Park River Forest (Ill.) defensive lineman Nile Sykes, who has offers from Illinois, Northern Illinois, Purdue and Toledo so far. "Recruiting is going really well," Sykes said. "Mail is still coming in heavy and I try to do my best to call the coaches when I can." He continued, "I don't have any new offers but Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Notre Dame have all been sending me a lot of mail and talking to me some." Plus, Sykes just visited one of the schools on his list of offers -- Illinois. "I visited Illinois Saturday for the game against Minnesota," Sykes said. "The visit was great in my opinion, even though they lost I still have faith in what they are doing because I know how good their coaching staff is." Sykes got to spend quite a bit of time with the coaching staff Saturday. "I got to go talk to all the coaches during the day," Sykes said. "And I got to talk with Coach Beckman in his office, then I went on a tour." He added, "My favorite part of the visit was probably getting to talk to the head coach one-on-one and also going through the tour." The Oak Park River Forest standout has a couple more visits planned in the coming days as well. "I am going to Northern Illinois to check them out Wednesday and then Wisconsin on Saturday," Sykes said. "Then I am planning on going to the Ohio State and Michigan game later in the year." Plus, now that his junior season has come to a close, Sykes has several goals left to accomplish before next season. "This offseason my goals are to work on getting bigger and faster and also playing with Core 6," Sykes said. "This season I think I improved the most on getting off the ball faster and just using my hands more in my pass rush." Sykes also plans on running track to help work on his speed in the spring.
