Already holding a handful of FBS offers, Dashawn Benton isn't satisfied.
"But I always dreamed of playing in the SEC."
The Atlanta (Ga.) Grady senior wideout is used to being given somewhat of a cap to what he can and can't achieve. He's trying to get over that, one catch at a time.
"Most of my life, people always told me I wasn't going to do this," said Benton of playing wide receiver at the next level.
Part of it was because of a former Grady standout making headlines.
"Damian Swann was here, so all the focus was on him," said Benton. "They didn't give me much playing time, so that's something I worked hard for."
The 6-foot (give or take), 178-pounder played quarterback his first two years of high school – backing up Swann.
"Some people doubt me at receiver, but I feel that I can play this position," he added. "I like going up for the ball, I have great ball skills."
Benton backs up his talk on tape, showing supreme skills on 50/50 balls with the ability to make big plays vertically despite his size. Using speed and anticipation, he flat-out gets the job done.
But everything going forward, before refocusing on recruiting, is to get the Grey Knights to the promise land.
Said Benton, "We're going to make sure we bring the ring back home, it's been a long time. Since 2005."
