Wilkie's Development Draws Local Interest

Andover (Minn.) junior quarterback Connor Wilkie talks about his visits to Minnesota and how he has improved from last year to this year.

Andover High has a 6'5, 200-lb junior quarterback in Connor Wilkie, who had a good season, being named 2nd team All-Metro, and the work he put in over the off-season was a big part of his success.

"Last year, I started on varsity as a sophomore. This year, I felt a lot more prepared. My dad is the head coach, so we spent a lot of time watching film. I went to a lot of camps and got prepared. Playing nine games on varsity as a sophomore and getting thrown in helped out a lot."

Wilkie went to camps at South Dakota, Minnesota and also attended a quarterbacks academy. He has since kept in touch with the Gophers, but the relationship began at the camp.

"It went really well. The quarterbacks coach was really responsive and went really well. I had a lot of fun. It was a good time."

Wilkie is receiving mail from Michigan State, but the bulk of his recruiting interest has come from Minnesota.

"They have been giving me unofficial gameday tickets. I've been to every home game so far and talked to the quarterback coach and my recruiting area coach."

The visits have given Wilkie a glimpse into what life as a Gopher would be like.

"The atmosphere is amazing, the stadium and facilities are top of the line, the recruiting room is really nice. They take you in the locker room and through the tunnel and onto the field and it's all really nice."

While an offer has not come yet, given Wilkie's play as a junior, it is certainly possible, and the Gophers would be tough to beat.

"I moved [to Minnesota] when I was three. I've wanted to go there since about 8th grade. I was pretty shocked after camp that they took me to the locker room to meet Coach Kill. That was eye opening. It's been amazing so far."
