Bad Draw?

The Dutchtown Griffins have produced several major college football prospects over the past few years, but playoff wins have been tough to come by. Last week Shelby Christy snared a 51 yard touchdown pass to give the Griffins some breathing room as they won their first round game over St. Amant 20-10. Dutchtown's reward? #1 ranked Rummel in round two.

"I feel like anybody can be beat," said Christy. "We've been #1 before and got beat. It can happen.

"We got beat last year in the first round.

"I just feel like we have to go out and execute and play our game.

"If I am being honest, I feel like Rummel got a bad draw with us in the second round.

"We had two losses, but we should have won those games. I feel like we're a tough match-up.

"I have watched a lot of tape of them and they have a lot of size.

"We're working hard and we're getting ready to go play."

Christy, a Mississippi State commitment, played in front of Bulldog aid and recruiting coach Greg Knox last Friday night.

On Saturday, Christy returned the favor by going to see the Bulldogs take on LSU in Baton Rouge.

"I thought they did some good things on offense," said Christy. "They threw the ball a lot and they had a lot of success.

"Tyler Russell is one of the top quarterbacks in the nation. He has an NFL arm and he's real poised.

"I am looking forward to playing with him next year."

Christy took an official visit to Nebraska when the Cornhuskers hosted Wisconsin.

With a trip to the Big 10 under his belt, the talented wide out reports that he only plans to make on more official visit, Mississippi State.

"I feel like I am done with all of that," said Christy. "I am 100% solid to Mississippi State and I am going to stick with them.

"I talk to the coaches up there once or twice a week. We talk a lot.

"I talk to Coach Knox and the new receivers' coach Coach (Tim) Brewster.

"We talk a lot about routes and things like that. I feel like me and Coach Brew already have a good bond.

"We just have a connection.

"I am real happy with my decision and I am looking forward to getting up there."
