Mike Young and Josh Newkirk signed their letters of intent on Wednesday. Pitt officially announced their signings Saturday, minutes before Saturday's tipoff against Oakland.

Though both players officially signed their letters of intent Wednesday, Pitt officially announced the additions of Mike Young and Josh Newkirk on Saturday, moments before tipoff against Oakland.

Young comes to Pitt as the No. 20 power forward in the country, after averaging 15.9 points, 11.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game as a junior. He also shot 72.8 percent (164-255) from the field last year.

Most significant of all, Young has local roots, as a native of nearby McKeesport. Young chose the Panthers based on "loyalty and honesty."

Newkirk comes to Pitt as the first signee from the ACC region. He averaged 15.2 points a game as a junior, leading his team to an 18-6 overall record. Newkirk has been predominantly a point guard for his high school career, but is expected to be a strong combo guard at the next level.
