A Long Time Coming

Saturday November 17, 2012 history was made inside Malone stadium. The ULM Warhawks secured their first winning season since their move to the FBS level back in 1994 with a 42-16 thrashing of North Texas.

Four presidential terms have come and gone since the ULM Warhawks last had a winning season.

Stuck on six wins the ULM faithful just knew the legend of Chief Brave Spirit was going to rise up and put the jinx on the Warhawks once again. At last the hex has been broken with a 42-16 victory over the North Texas Mean Green(4-7 3-4).

ULM got a big boost when junior quarterback and impact player Kolton Browning returned to the lineup to throw for 324 yards on 25/34 passing with three touchdowns and one interception. He added 13 rush yards and 1 yard touchdown run.

The Warhawks (7-4 5-2) rushed for 161 yards on 31 carries (5.2) and three scores. Red shirt freshman Devante McNeal led ULM with 54 yards on one carry.

Junior Je'ron Hamm hauled in 7 passes for 119 yards and touchdown catches of 24, and 61 yards.

With his three touchdown passes, Kolton Browning passed Steven Jyles as ULM's all time leader with 57.

ULM will travel to FIU (3-8 2-5) next weekend to end the regular season. After starting the season 1-8, the Panthers have won back to back games at South Alabama and Florida Atlantic.

FIU is led by 6'3 sophomore quarterback Jake Medlock. Medlock has thrown for 2,127 yards and 13 touchdowns but more importantly he has only been picked off twice all season.
