PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Rutgers joined the Big Ten conference Tuesday, although the date it will be an active member needs to be decided. During Tuesday's announcement, Big Ten commission Jim Delany, Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti and Rutgers president Richard L. Barchi spoke about the significance, and the reasoning, behind the move.

Rutgers is introduced as the 14th member of the Big Ten conference.
