Quotables
"I've always
wanted to play North Carolina. I was hoping it
would be in the championship game, but I'm
looking forward to it. It's a program that I think
we've all looked up to for a long time. To have the
opportunity to play against some of the best
recruits in the country, one of the best coaches in the country. It's going to be fun. We're hoping we
can get after it and be right there at the end of the
game." -- Chaminade coach Eric Bovaird
"It's very exciting, but
we can't just look at it like that. We've got to look
at it like another game. I say it all the time. These
guys put their shorts and their jerseys on just like
us. So we're coming out not to ask for autographs
and to look up to these guys. We're coming out to
beat them. So that's what's on our minds." -- Chaminade guard Bennie Murray

Season to Date: Chaminade enters Wednesday’s third-place game
in the Maui Invitational with a 3-2 record. The Division II
Silverswords defeated Saint Martin’s (87-84) and Western Oregon
(84-76) before losing to Western Washington (93-83). Chaminade
possibly pulled the upset of the 2012-13 basketball season with its
86-73 victory over Texas on Monday before losing to Illinois (84-61) on
Tuesday.
Mere Coincidence? Chaminade recognized its 1982 basketball
team earlier this week in celebrating the 30th anniversary of its
defeat of No. 1 Virginia, led by Ralph Sampson, on Dec. 23, 1982. The
Silverswords added another milestone to their resume with its victory
over Texas on Monday and now own a 7-77 record in the Maui Invitational.
Hot Hand: Senior guard De’Andre Haskins shot his way into the
national headlines with his 32-point, nine-rebound effort against
Texas. The Long Beach, Calif. native is averaging 21 points per game after sitting out the
2011-12 season due to injury. His college career began at Valparaiso,
where Haskins scored four points and grabbed three rebounds in an
85-63 loss to North Carolina on Dec. 20, 2008.
International Roster: The Silverswords represent five different
countries, including Australia, Serbia, Taiwan and Mali. Five
different states in the U.S. are also represented.
Last Meeting: Top-ranked North Carolina defeated Chaminade,
115-70, in the Maui Invitational on Nov. 24, 2008. Danny Green led
UNC with 26 points and seven rebounds, while Ty Lawson added 19 points
and six assists with Tyler Hansbrough sidelined due to a stress
reaction in his shin.
Series History: UNC leads the all-time series with Chaminade, 1-0.
