AFC EAST UPDATE: WEEK 12 EDITION

AFC EAST UPDATE: WEEK 12 EDITION

Expected to be one of the strongest divisions this season, the AFC East has been very pedestrian so far in 2012.

A division that had tons of promise before the season may be the worst in the NFL, which is pretty incredible considering it boasts arguably the league's best team in the Patriots. Here's where the AFC East teams stand entering the Week 12 weekend:

New York Jets (4-7)

The Jets had an all-time embarrassing showing against the Patriots Thursday night, giving up 21 points in 53 seconds and 35 points in the second quarter to get blown out by their biggest rival. The only silver lining in the Jets' season is that they finish vs. five teams which all have losing records. But talk of winning out is laughable at this point, and will 9-7 be good enough for a Wildcard, anyway?

New England Patriots (8-3)

New England is destroying everything in its path as of late, having scored 190 points over the last four games. Plus, its defensive and special teams units are making their dough on turnovers and scores, combining for five touchdowns in the last two games. The Patriots have their sights set on postseason seeding at this point.

Buffalo Bills (4-6)

The Bills' defense finally showed up Thursday night, forcing three crucial turnover in ousting the division-rival Dolphins in Buffalo. The Bills' superb return game now looks to take advantage of a struggling Colts special teams unit when it travels to Indianapolis in a contest that could either complicate the AFC "in-the-hunt" race or make it much clearer.

Miami Dolphins (4-6)

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill had his second straight rookie game last Thursday, and the Dolphins fell to 0-5 when Tannehill throws an interception. The Dolphins absolutely couldn't lose that game and should now be well out of the hunt for a Wildcard berth within the next few weeks, as they face the Seattle Seahawks, Patriots and San Francisco 49ers in consecutive games.
