Early season honors continued for Kansas on Monday, as center Jeff Withey was recognized by the Big 12, being named the conference’s Player of the Week.

Withey was a defensive force in leading the Jayhawks to two wins over San Jose State, last Monday and Oregon State, Friday night in Kansas City.

Against the Spartans, Withey collected the 13th triple-double in Big 12 history and the second official triple-double in Kansas history. He scored 16 points, 12 rebounds and blocked a staggering 12 shots, which was a Big 12 and school single-game record. It was also the first triple-double in Allen Fieldhouse history.

Last week, Withey averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 7.5 blocks while shooting 70 percent from the field.

In addition, the Jayhawks moved up one spot in the polls to number nine.

They’ll enjoy a week off before hosting former conference foe Colorado, Saturday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse.
