Gamecocks honored on All-SEC Coaches Team

South Carolina has several players selected to the All-SEC Coaches team for the 2012 season. Jadeveon Clowney and Ace Sanders lead the first team honors for the Gamecocks with three other players making the second team.

Another day, another host of honors for the Gamecocks.

The SEC announced its All-SEC Coaches team on Tuesday and the Gamecocks find themselves making their marks on the first and second team.

Headlining the first team for the Gamecocks are defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and wide receiver/punt returner Ace Sanders. Clowney was named first team defensive lineman while Ace Sanders was named first team return specialist.

Clowney, the 6-6, 256-pound sophomore, finished the regular season second in tackles for loss (21.5) and in sacks (13.0). Both of these are single-season records at South Carolina. Sanders set the single-season record for punt return yardage in a season with 363 yards. He was the leading punt returner in the conference with 14.5 yards per return.

South Carolina placed three players on the second team and they are Ace Sanders, T.J. Johnson and D.J. Swearinger. Sanders was named the second team all-purpose player, Johnson was the second team center on offense and Swearinger was one of the four second team defensive backs.

The conference will release individual awards on Wednesday and the All-Freshman team will be announced on Thursday.
