Monroe Excited for First Offer

FOX Sports NEXT is in the streets this fall to bring you all the coverage from across the Midlands region. Recently, we caught up with Bush quarterback Ronald Monroe from Richmond, Texas after getting some big news in this Friday…

Sure he and his team would have loved to be still playing in the playoffs, but Richmond (TX) Bush quarterback Ronald Monroe is still looking forward to good news.

And today he was able to get some.

"When my coach told me, I was like, ‘Are you serious,'" Monroe said when his coach had informed him that Houston was offering a scholarship. "I felt great when I heard that."

Word was, according to Monroe, that the UH coaches watched the film and liked what they saw. A call was made to Bush coach Allen Aldridge to inform the coach that Houston wants Monroe to come up for a junior day and that a scholarship was extended.

"I was excited at that moment. The UH coaches said that they plan to bring me in as a quarterback, but will use me somewhere else if needed," the 6-foot-4, 195-pound Monroe said.

Aside from the hometown Cougars, Monroe said that TCU, Notre Dame, LSU, Northwestern, SMU and Texas Tech were also recruiting him. This past season, Monroe threw for 1,932 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also had close to 300 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
