Melton Shines In All-Star Week Workouts

Cornerback Kamryn Melton is one of five Auburn football commitments taking part in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic that will be played in Montgomery.

Montgomery, Ala.—Saturday's Alabama-Mississippi Football All-Star Classic features many of the top high school seniors in the state for the 2013 recruiting class and one of those players is Auburn commitment Kamryn Melton from Dothan.

A talented prospect who finished his senior season with 64 tackles and two interceptions in 10 games, Melton averaged better than 22 yards per punt return and also added eight pass break-ups and one fumble recovery. Those numbers were good enough to get Melton picked for the game and he says it is a special week.

So far in practice this week he has been one of the most impressive players for the Alabama All-Stars.

"It's exciting because it's such a big honor to represent my school, my city and my state," Melton says. "It's a big honor to be here with big-time names like Dee Liner and Reuben Foster and those guys.

"It's going to be exciting to play on the same team with them," he adds. "Knowing we're going to be playing at the best of our abilities makes us want to dominate."

Playing alongside Liner and Foster on defense with Jeremy Johnson, Jason Smith and Earnest Robinson on offense, Melton notes it's a great opportunity for the Auburn commitments to stick together while also trying to get Foster back in the fold.

That's something that has been on his mind since the talented defensive back talked with new coach Gus Malzahn. Spending time with him and getting a feel for what the coach is all about, Melton notes the hiring is one that he's fully onboard with for the Tigers.

"It really settled me down," Melton says when Malzahn was hired. "I was going to stay committed regardless, but it really calmed me down because he had already been a part of the program and the Auburn Family and knows how it is down there. It really got me back focused on what I need to do."

One of the guys who Melton is anxious to get to know better is new defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson. A veteran coach who has been very successful at several stops in the SEC, Melton has already heard plenty about his future coordinator from his high school coach. Those talks have him ready to get his career started at Auburn to see what the future holds for the Tigers.

"I know he talked to my head coach, Kelvis White, and I'm supposed to take my official visit soon," Melton points out. "He wants me to come up pretty soon to make sure everything is good. Coach White has told me all about him. I'm excited about him and I'm ready to have fun when I get there."
