The Dodgers have acquired utility man Skip Schumaker in exchange for minor league infielder Jake Lemmerman.
The Dodgers announced today that they have traded infielder
Jake Lemmerman
for utility man
Skip Schumaker
.
Schumaker, a California native, was drafted by the Cardinals in 2001 and has spent the last 8 years with the big league club. Over that time, he's batted .288 and played all three outfield spots as well as second base.
Lemmerman is coming off a down year in which he batted .233 for Double A Chattanooga. He spent most of his time at shortstop, but also played 28 games at second and one at third. The 23 year old was originally drafted out of
Duke
University in 2010.
The Dodgers get a fourth outfielder and backup second baseman in this deal, while St. Louis acquires a potential backup middle infielder. Schumaker is signed through 2013 and is scheduled to make $1.5 million.
