Eying up the record books

SPARTANBURG - Mike Williams wouldn't mind breaking a few of the records that DeAndre Hopkins set in 2012.

Earlier this season, Hopkins set the Clemson career records for touchdown receptions and receiving yards.

"Nuk broke a lot of records," Williams said in an interview with CUTigers, after Shrine Bowl practice at Spartanburg High School. "They moved the ball a lot. Tajh Boyd broke some records, too, so it's an offense that moves the ball. That's really good for me."

The four-star prospect added, "When I got there, I'll want to break them."

Williams, who has an impressive high school resume, will sign with Clemson in February.

"I'm confident in my decision. I'm just ready to sign the papers and get it over with," he said.

Clemson coaches have already been through Lake Marion High School and to his home for a visit this month.

"Coach [Marion] Hobby and Dabo Swinney, they checked by my house a couple of weeks ago," Williams said.

"It was good. It was the first time they really got to sit down with my parents and talk about Clemson. My mom liked it. We talked about school."

Williams will be back in Clemson for his official visit on the weekend of Jan. 11, the banquet weekend.

"I'm looking forward to just getting with the coaches, talking to them, just having some fun," he said.

As for this week at the Shrine Bowl, it's been a positive experience.

"He got a little aggressive with a couple of minutes ago, me and Jadar," Williams said on Monday. "We were talking all year. We live up the street from each other, but we have a good friendship."

Williams finished his senior season at Lake Marion with 60 catches for 1,395 yards with 10 touchdowns. He also recorded 19 tackles, three interceptions and two pass breakups.
