McWilson staying busy

Marcus McWilson is going down as the first commitment in the Nebraska recruiting class committing to the Huskers in late February. McWilson had a solid senior season and now he says that he's enjoying his remaining time around Youngstown (Ohio) Cardinal Mooney before going to Lincoln in the summer.

Nebraska commitment and Youngstown (Ohio) Cardinal Mooney safety Marcus McWilson is a four-star safety according to Scout.com and is rated the No. 17 safety nationally. The Nebraska commitment says that the Husker staff will be in-home with him shortly after the New Year.

"I don't have my in-home visit with them until January 4th," McWilson said. "Courtney Love already had his, but one of the coaches called my mother to set up mine. I am staying the whole year in high school and Courtney is heading up in January."

McWilson is in a little different situation than Love. Love will be heading up to Nebraska in just a few weeks and enrolling early. McWilson won't head to Lincoln until after the school year in the summer.

"I am just trying to have some fun and enjoy my time here before I have to go. I know that when I do leave that I will be away from here for a while and it will just be football and school during that time. I just wanted to enjoy right now."

With Nebraska not coming in-home with McWilson until January it's definitely a concern if other teams are trying to convince the Nebraska commitment to look around. McWilson said that hasn't really happened and that's good because schoolwork is requiring a lot of attention right now.

"No, not really I haven't spoken to any other teams, no," McWilson said. "It's actually worked out really well too because I am busy with school doing a term paper and two finals that I have to either have done before Christmas or right afterward."

If McWilson isn't doing school work he will probably be working out somewhere. He said that he and some other football players that don't play basketball for the school are on an intramural team. He is also getting some lifting in. McWilson will also run in four different evens in the spring.

"I do recreational basketball like an intramural team," McWilson said. "We just get together and have tournaments. I still workout though doing some lifting, running and throwing. It's been pretty easy for me to condition playing basketball. It's a good workout for me.

"I will do track in the spring though. I run the 100m, 200m, 4x100m and the 4x200m. I am hoping to make it back to state again this year and get the gold this year. We went to state for the 4x100m last year and should have in the 4x200m. My best 100m time is 10.8."
