Standout senior offensive guard Alvin Bailey will not return for his fifth season with the Arkansas football team, his parents confirmed Wednesday morning.
Bailey (6-5, 312) is a product of Broken Arrow, Okla., and has started the last three seasons after spending his true freshman season as a redshirt. He had a fifth year of eligibility remaining to play for new coach Bret Bielema.
Alvin Bailey, Sr., his father, confirmed with a statement from he and his wife Delores that their son would declare for the draft.
"The Bailey Family will always be Hogs, however, Alvin has decided to forego his redshirt senior season," it said. "We support his decision."
There had been speculation well before Bielema was hired that Bailey would not return for his senior season. He was considered to be the anchor of the offensive line, along with center Travis Swanson.
Bailey worked with the second team in spring drills and in fall camp because of what were speculated as eligibility issues in regards to academics. He was moved back to the first team late in camp when head coach John L. Smith indicated that Bailey had taken care of those issues.
Bailey joins running back Knile Davis as declaring for the NFL draft.
