Game Film and eval: Alex Anzalone

HERSHEY, Pa. -- Notre Dame commit Alex Anzalone led Wyomissing (Pa.) Area to the PIAA Class AA title with a win against Aliquippa (Pa.), and was there to capture the footage and provide a scouting report on the four-star outside linebacker.

It wasn't a great start for Wyomssing (Pa.) Area High four-star linebacker Alex Anzalone in the PIAA Class AA title game when he fumbled twice in the first half, but he didn't let it affect him.

Anzalone, a Notre Dame commit, then had a stellar second half to lead Wyomissing to its first state title, and the mental toughness shown to overcome the poor start was only one of the things to like about Anzalone.

The most important things are he is a legit 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, and he is incredibly twitched up.

Anzalone explodes forward and gets to top speed in two steps. He has tremendous lateral movement and can run down the line of scrimmage to make a play, but also gets up the field. He wasn't asked to play in coverage much, but he made a sensational play to break up a possible first down throw in the third quarter while covering a running back in the flat.

Anzalone also showed an ability to shed a block and make a tackle, and also chased down a few plays from behind.

There were a few instances where Anzalone got up the field so quickly he ran himself out of the play, and a few times he was caught off guard and knocked back on blocks, but those instances are easily correctable.
