Gigantes del Cibao right fielder Nelson Cruz reached base four times in five plate appearances on Saturday. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.
Dominican Winter League
Gigantes del Cibao right fielder
Nelson Cruz
reached base four times in five plate appearances on Saturday, getting two singles and drawing two walks. He also knocked in two runs.
Hanser Alberto
, who batted eighth and got the start at third base, was 0-for-4 with a run batted in.
Licey’s
Engel Beltre
added one single in three trips.
Venezuelan Winter League
Aragua third baseman
Yangervis Solarte
raised his batting average to .274 with a pair of singles in four at-bats.
Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)
As usual, Liga Paralela is not playing games during the weekend. They’ll return to action on Monday afternoon.
Mexican Pacific League
Guasave catcher
Jose Felix
went 0-for-3, dropping his batting average to .318 He did throw out two of three attempted base stealers from behind the plate.
Puerto Rican Winter League
Ponce played a doubleheader on Saturday, with left fielder
Jared Hoying
and catcher
Zach Zaneski
playing in the first game while
Kevin Torres
worked behind the plate in the nightcap.
In the first game, Hoying (1/2, HBP) and Zaneski (1/3) collected one single apiece. Right-hander Alex de la Cruz, who had been excellent thus far, was tagged for six runs in an inning. The rough outing ballooned his ERA to 6.75.
Torres went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the nightcap. On the mound, left-hander
Alexander Claudio
tossed a scoreless inning and earned his first victory.
Australian Baseball League
After going 0-for-10 in Friday’s doubleheader, Brisbane centerfielder
Hirotoshi Onaka
moved from the leadoff spot to the nine hole on Saturday. The switch-hitter responded with two singles in four at-bats, though he also struck out twice and was caught stealing once.
