Name: Kani Benoit
School: Phoenix (Az.) Thunderbird
Size: 5-11 200
Recruiting: Currently a 3 star prospect that has 10 D1/1AA offers
Benoit has been a productive back on the varsity level since his sophomore year, helping the Chiefs win a state title in 2010. He was an all-state player his senior year, rushing for over 2,000 yards. Benoit is a big back, big enough to carry the ball between the tackles but has enough speed to get to the edge. Benoit was timed at sub-11 seconds in the 100 meters in track as a junior. Benoit has shown that he has some shiftiness but he also is not scared to lower his shoulder and finish runs. He also has value as a returner, as he averaged over 38 yards per kickoff return as a senior.
Benoit got a ton of carries as a senior and fumbles will happen but he had 9 fumbles as a senior and lost 7 of them. He will have to fix this. I think Benoit has the ability to be an every down back in college but he caught only 2 balls as a senior. He was not given the opportunity to catch many passes so it is tough to say if he has good hands or not.
This is a kid that rushed for 2,260 yards and 36 TDs as a senior against quality competition. I am shocked that Benoit has not been offered by a BCS conference school yet. Grades are not a concern and I feel that Kani could land more and bigger offers as signing day approaches.
