Cats make Hytchye's top five

Three-star Cincinnati (Ohio) LaSalle defensive back Jaleel Hytchye announced this weekend that he has trimmed his list to five schools and has Kentucky as one of those favorites. Read more about his pending decision in this KyScout update.

"I decided to name my final five as Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Louisville and Tennessee," Hytchye said. "I'll try to eliminate one of those each of the next two weeks, then hopefully announce my decision from the final three schools on January 17."

Asked if he still needs to make any visits before his decision, Hytchye said: "Not necessarily. Maybe to Louisville, but I know enough about the others already, and to tell you the truth, they're all pretty much the same. My decision will be based more on the coaching staff, my relationship with them, and how I fit in."

His lone official visit came earlier this month at Pittsburgh.

Kentucky has been recruiting the 6-foot, 175-pound Hytchye for more than a year, but the Wildcats are playing catch-up in the relationship department due tot he coaching staff change. Hytchye says he likes what he's heard from both UK head coach Mark Stoops and defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot.

"I got to talk to both of them recently," he said. "They told me they need some more speed in their secondary, and that I was the type of athlete who could come in and play early for them. (Eliot) told me that he really likes me a lot of all the corners they're recruiting right now, so I feel like they're pretty serious about me."

Hytchye said he had dropped UK from his list midway through the season because "I didn't feel like it was going to be a winning program," but that outlook has changed.

"If you look at coach Stoops, even though he hasn't been a head coach, he's been a winner everywhere he's ever coached," Hytchye said. "I have no doubt that his staff is going to be good at Kentucky. I like how they're saying they want to win on the field and in the classroom and start a new tradition at Kentucky."
