Just what The Chad ordered.
"I thought tempo was unbelievable tonight for us," he said. "I thought it was a big advantage for us, absolutely. I think everybody saw that."
LSU defenders dropped like flies as Clemson moved the ball downfield during the final quarter.
"That's what this offense does. When it executes, it's a long game for those other guys," said Brandon Ford, who caught nine passes for 69 yards.
Trailing 24-13 at the start of the fourth quarter, Clemson scored on its final three drives of the game; first, on a 26-yard field goal from Chandler Catanzaro, second on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Tajh Boyd to DeAndre Hopkins and again on a 37-yard field goal from Catanzaro.
"We tempo-ed them," Ford said. "We knew that was going to be key. When we watched film, we knew they didn't like tempo. We ended up hitting right at 100 plays. Their game is to try to play you short field and try to limit you to 60 plays or less."
Cat Man's game winner…"It was just awesome. I knew how much my team was fighting the whole game. It's a game of inches. They just clawed the whole game. I just knew, if it came down to me, I was going to deliver for them. I just thanked them for the opportunity to set me up." - Catanzaro
"It was just like we practiced it. He's missed one kick all year long, so there really wasn't much doubt. I want to give credit to our offensive line. They got the block, the extra-point early. That was huge. Great protection, great snap by Sobeski. Nobody knows who he is. If he made a bad snap, you would. Michael Sobeski. Spencer Benton made a great hold. Cat put it through the pipes." - Dabo Swinney
The D steps up…"What you want to see at the end of the day is your group, overall, get better from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. No question that we did." - Brent Venables
"We came out with a chip on our shoulder. We had a chip on our shoulder all season, really. We were just fed up with hearing that we're soft. When you're a man, you're a football player, you don't ever want to hear that you're soft. We really wanted to take the fight to them tonight. We were able to do that." - Xavier Brewer
"I really felt that the defense came together. When we needed a big stop, we were all on the same page. We were locked in from beginning to end. We had three to four weeks to get ready and learn LSU's offense, and that paid off. We played as one." - Jonathan Willard
"Defensively, huge state was 3 of 13 on third-down. They only had nine first-downs the whole game, 219 total yards, only 99 yards rushing. They got as good of backs as there is in the country." - Swinney
Against the odds…"It hurt our pride, but we see the character of the team with how we responded. We've got great chemistry on this team and I'm proud of how we stepped up." - Boyd
"We've been in that situation before. Just to prove people wrong is always a good thing. At the same time, you know that's the nature. That's just life. People always say you can't do this, you can't do that. One thing we learned, don't ever let somebody tell you that you can't do that." - Ford
"If we execute our system and play to the standard that we set for ourselves, we feel like we can beat anybody in the country. We knew we had to come in and prove things to people and prove them wrong. In order for that to happen, Tajh Boyd had to play well tonight." - Morris
"When a lot of people didn't think we could do it, the stage that we did it, on New Year's Eve, to get that 11th win, it's pretty special." - Venables
Down goes Sammy…"We knew we were going to have some adversity. It hit us in the face. We just didn't know it was going to be the second play of the game. We were really, it was a huge game plan built around Sammy, so we had to do a lot of cutting and pasting, adjusting." - Morris
Mixing and matching on the OL…"You lose Giff [Timothy]. We have Brandon Thomas playing a position he hadn't played all year. I have a freshman out there, hadn't played three quality snaps all year, blocking Mingo and Sam." - Swinney
"We couldn't have made it without Isaiah Battle tonight. The guy that you've got to mention the most is Brandon Thomas. Being able to move to right tackle -- hasn't done it all year long, being put in that situation and stepping up, what an unbelievable job." - Morris
"Joe Gore has been our backup there, but Joe's just not ready. Joe has been there all year long. We gave him a series. He just wasn't ready. Mentally, athletically, he's there, but mentally he's not." - Morris
