Clark Hunt to Interview Andy Reid

After meeting with a pair of Atlanta Falcon assistant coaches on Tuesday afternoon, Kansas City Chiefs Chairman, Clark Hunt, will up his game today and visit with former Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach, Andy Reid.

In what was a wild and crazy Tuesday afternoon that turned out to be lots of smoke and no fire in regards to the potential landing sight for veteran head coach, Andy Reid, it appears the Chiefs are about to interview one of their top coaching candidates to replace the recently ousted, Romeo Crennel.

Yesterday ESPN jumped the gun in reporting that Reid was 95% certain to take the coaching gig in Arizona. But that report was tempered hours later, when it was learned that Reid had yet to interview with the Cardinals. As of this writing, he's scheduled to meet with the NFC West team on Thursday.

But before that takes place, comes word that Chiefs Chairman, Clark Hunt and presumably President Mark Donovan, will sit down with Reid today to talk about KC's vacant head coaching position.

Reid has always been atop the Chiefs head coaching wish list. And with Donovan's ties to the Eagles, it makes sense that the lines of communication between the former Philadelphia employees have been relatively busy since Reid's official departure became public Monday morning.

The Chiefs, despite the limbo situation of their General Manager, Scott Pioli, appear ready to strike big in the suddenly experience heavy arena of available head coaches.

Reid would bring instant credibility to a Chiefs organization that needs a strong leader at the top of its coaching chain. In the wake of one of the most difficult seasons in franchise history, Clark Hunt, appears to be both ready and willing to spend the dollars to fix the teams ills to make the Chiefs relevant again.

Should Reid and the Chiefs agree to a deal later this evening, one would have to assume that, Tom Heckert, who worked with Reid for eight seasons in Philadelphia, could join his old boss in Kansas City as the teams new General Manager.

Heckert, who was recently fired by the Cleveland Browns, could ultimately be the man who supplants, Scott Pioli, from his current position within the organization.

Either way, per our spies, continue to give us strong indicators the Pioli era is coming to an end in Kansas City. But that won't happen until there is a new head coach in play for the Chiefs and he and Hunt agree on a successor.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Chiefs interviewed Atlanta Falcon assistants, Keith Armstrong and Dirk Koetter. Armstrong satisfies the NFL's Rooney rule. As far as, Koetter, overnight he signed a two-year contract extension to remain in Atlanta.

Finally, if the Chiefs don't land Andy Reid by days end as their next head coach, I would not be surprised if Clark Hunt flies to New York to make another run at former Chiefs defensive coordinator, Bill Cowher.
