USABB: Matthews ready

Tray Matthews is ready for Saturday's U.S. Army All-American game and ready to help finish off Georgia's 2013 class.

It's a big month for four-star safety Tray Matthews. First it's Saturday's all-star, where Matthews will compete for the East team. Then he's off to enroll and start classes at the University of Georgia. While there, he has his eye on helping the Dawgs close strong in the recruiting race.

First up is Saturday's U.S. Army All-American Game.

"It's been a great week," Matthews said. "I am going 100% full speed out there. I love the contact. I love that competition. We go up against some physical running backs. Oh boy are they good. And the competition with these receivers has been real good."

Matthews, 6-foot-1 and 200-pounds, has established some goals for the game.

"I want two picks, 10 tackles and to block a kick," said Matthews, who blocked eight field goals and two punts this season.

Next week Matthews will turn his attention to recruiting, namely putting on his recruiting hat to assist the Georgia coaches with some big time players. Atop the wish list is five-star linebacker Reuben Foster (Auburn, Ala.) and four-star running back Alvin Kamara (Norcross, Ga.).

"Everyone knows Reuben," Matthews said. "He's a great athlete who is from Georgia. He likes Georgia, Washington and Alabama. I know he will make his official visit to Georgia in January and I will be there to host him. That will be a big event. That's my boy. We have always talked about going to the same school.

"Another one is Alvin Kamara. He's a great running back and a great kid. We haven't talked in a while but when we do we are good."
