Alston to Schedule Official Visits

Johnathan Alston has been torn between North Carolina and NC State since the end of the summer. Just when the wide receiver was about to choose between the two in-state rivals, the situation hit a couple snags.

"It's still down to the two," Bunn (N.C.) head coach Chris Miller said. "Like always – and I feel like a broken record when I say it – he likes both of them a whole lot."

In late November, NC State fired head coach Tom O'Brien and the majority of his staff wasn't retained by his successor Dave Doeren.

"[Alston] hasn't met any of the coaches at [N.C.] State yet, so I would say that is going into his decision on whether he's going to fit into the new system," Miller said.

In addition to the coaching turnover at NC State, Alston has been focusing on his academics.

"We're trying to get his test scores up to make sure he's qualified," Miller said.

If Alston doesn't improve his test scores, he'll have to spend at least a semester at a prep school.

"We're waiting on his test scores to make sure," Miller said. "Like other kids, if for some reason he does not qualify, then I think prep school is the route that he'll probably end up going. He just got a test score in and he did a lot better on. So I'm pretty confident that he'll qualify."

Miller says that both UNC and NC State have remained in constant contact. NC State has discussed the possibility of placing Alston at a prep school if he didn't qualify.

Since he's still uncommitted at this point of the recruiting cycle, Miller anticipates that Alston will take official visits to both schools before deciding. However, no trips have been scheduled.

"I would assume in the next few days – I'm about to give Coach [Randy] Jordan a call in a second here – that they both set something up," Miller said.
