Hollins Talks on His UCLA Commitment

Missouri City (Tex.) Marshall outside linebacker and defensive end Deon Hollins discusses his Semper Fi experience and the latest surrounding his UCLA commitment...

Missouri City (Tex.) Marshall outside linebacker and defensive end Deon Hollins has enjoyed his Semper Fi Bowl week experience, as he's spent time competing alongside some of the country's top talent.

"I think our practices this week went really well. We got a lot of good work in, especially with limited time and new teammates and coaches. I'm from Texas so getting their perspective on a lot of things, from a lot of California kids, is very interesting," he said.

Hollins, a UCLA commit, has had the chance to spend some time with a few other Bruin commits, both on the offensive line.

"Kenny Lacy, John Lopez, and I have bonded pretty good. We got to feel each other out on the field. It's been going really well," he said.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound athlete verballed to the Bruins program in March, but does plan on taking a few more visits.

"You don't want to mess up, it's a hard decision. Utah and Notre Dame are two schools that I have had my eye on for a long time. I haven't visited them yet, but I plan to. I think I'm visiting Utah the week of January 12th," he said.

Hollins, however, did say that he was solid to the Bruins, and has had the opportunity to speak with the coaches about how they plan on incorporating him into the defense.

"Things with UCLA are going pretty well. After their bowl game, it was a disappointing loss, but the future is bright. They are pretty much hybrid, but see me as an outside linebacker in their 3-4 scheme. A lot of rushing, a lot of dropping, just being very multiple. It's really good. I just want to go out there and help the team, that's all. If the coaches feel like I can help out, it will be great," he said.

This week, however, it's all about Semper Fi for Hollins, who could not be more honored to be playing in Friday's game.

"It's a tremendous accomplishment. I remember coming into high school, I just wanted to get on a watch list, so this is a pretty big deal for me," he said.
