Ford Hosting Head Coaches

Johnathan Ford is one of Alabama's most explosive football players. Coach James Franklin of Vanderbilt was able to gain the verbal commitment of Ford during the summer. With one month left until signing day, Ford's pledge to Vanderbilt will surely be tested. Several SEC programs remain in hot pursuit of the fleet footed Ford.

"I have had a lot of schools come see me lately," said Ford. "Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt have all come by.

"The only head coaches that have come by so far are Coach Malzhan (Auburn) and Coach Mullen (Mississippi State).

"We haven't set up our home visit with Coach Franklin and Vanderbilt yet, but we will do that pretty soon."

Gus Malzhan's trip to Ford's neck of the woods turned into a two for one visit.

"I got to see Coach Malzhan over at Cameron Toney's house," said Ford. "He's committed up there, so Coach Malzhan talked with both of us.

"He told me that they are still very interested in me."

The most recent in home visit featured a trio of Mississippi State coaches.

"Coach (Dan) Mullen, Coach (Greg) Knox, the running backs coach and Coach (Les) Koenning, the offensive coordinator came to see me and my family," said Ford. "The visit went good.

"Coach Mullen told me that they have wanted me since day one.

"He told me that I am the kind of player that he is looking for and that I would be a good fit for their offense and the SEC West.

"He said that they like how dynamic I am and that he wants us to continue to have a relationship."

Mississippi State is one of several programs that have invited Ford to take an official visit, but so far he has not made a decision about visiting any school other than Vanderbilt.

"I am going to visit Vandy on the 18th, but that's all I know for sure right now," said Ford. "My family and I are going to talk about all of that.

"I am a young guy and I am only going to do this once.

"I want to be sure I make the right decision.

"I have talked with several college players about everything and they all tell me to take my time with everything and be sure about my decision before signing day."
