Schools interested in James

Leondre James of Donaldsonville

2014 Donaldsonville standout Leondre James has caught the attention of several SEC schools. With interest picking up quickly, where will the receiving prospect visit?

For Leondre James, the last few months have been hectic. With his high school season ending at Donaldsonville High School, James has had a chance to dive into the recruiting process, something that has drastically picked up over the last several weeks. James, playing primarily quarterback for the Tigers in 2012, threw for 1,742 yards and rushed for 567 more. He also added 16 total touchdowns. The 5-11 170 pound James is receiving interest from schools inside the state of Louisiana, in addition to a couple of other SEC West schools. So far, James has been satisfied with what he has heard from college coaches.

"The recruiting process is going well right now," said James. "LSU is recruiting me, in addition to Ole Miss, Tulane, and Mississippi State. They stay on top of me on twitter and other social media stuff. Ole Miss is on me pretty hard right now, too."

Hailing from Louisiana, James explained that the early interest from LSU has him excited. While he won't be able to make it to Baton Rouge as soon as he would have liked, James will visit LSU for one of their upcoming junior days.

"Everything with LSU is great right now," said James. "I'm supposed to be going to their junior day in February. They had said something to me bout coming for their Boys from the Boot thing, but I already have plans. I'll be at a later one for sure."

Recruiting Coordinator Frank Wilson has taken over the lead in the recruitment of James for LSU. While he has heard from him, James explained that he is looking forward to speaking with Wilson in person and getting to know him better so that they can develop a solid relationship.

"Frank Wilson is my main recruiter and we haven't really gotten a chance to sit down and talk in person yet," said James. "He has talked to my coach and stuff. He has said a lot of good things about me to other people, like my coach, but I can't wait for the opportunity to get to know him in person."

When he does make it to Baton Rouge for a junior day visit, James explained that he has an idea of what he will be looking for once he steps on campus.

"I just want to see how the coaches approach me and how the relationship I can build with them will be," said James. "I really just want to make sure that I could be comfortable at a school like that. I am very excited about visiting LSU."

James became very familiar with LSU in 2012 when he took multiple visits to the school. Even with James being familiar with the campus he still expects to have a great time on his visit.

"I went to the LSU-Alabama game and I also went for the Ole Miss game," said James. "I ran track there for the tournament and I've been around the campus a lot, so I'm familiar with the campus. Every visit there is fun and I expect this next one to be similar."

James explained that he also has plans lined up for a second visit to LSU during the summer camp circuit, something that he is looking forward to because of the different atmosphere he will experience.

"I plan on camping at LSU this summer as well," said James. "I'm looking forward to all of the things that come along with camp, like getting to know the coaches and meet some of the other guys from around the state."

While LSU is a school that James would like to visit, it is hardly the only school that the class of 2014 standout wants to check out in the coming months.

"I'm planning on visiting Mississippi State, but I'm not sure yet when that will be," explained James. "I would also like to visit Alabama. They are a school that is really high on my list, in addition to LSU and Mississippi State. Texas A&M is another big school that I would like to visit."

Even with it being so early in the recruiting process for James, he has already figured out what his top list of schools looks like, and it is full of SEC powers, with one school coming from the Big 12.

"LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Texas are schools that I have high interest in," said James. "I like how they develop their players and how many of their players end up in the league as high round picks. Most of them play a lot of freshmen. That is what makes me interested in them."

While he doesn't currently report any offers, James explained that he would take part in the Nike Sparq Combine, taking place in New Orleans, LA. He also plans to make a college choice following his senior season.
