Three local firms and three out-of-state companies are bidding to manage construction of the Vikings’ new $1 billion stadium.

Six firms are vying to manage construction of the $1 billion new Minnesota Vikings football stadium to be built in downtown Minneapolis.

The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority released the list Friday of firms that attended a pre-proposal meeting for prospective construction managers. Three Minnesota companies are on the list: Mortenson Construction and Kraus-Anderson of Minneapolis, and Loeffler Construction of Lakeville.

The three other firms are Gilbane Building Companies of Rhode Island, Skanska of New Jersey and Hunt Construction of Arizona.

The companies' proposals are due Jan. 21, and the choice will be announced Feb. 1. The stadium architect will be Dallas-based HKS Inc., which previously designed NFL stadiums in that city and Indianapolis.

The authority and the team hope to have the new stadium ready for the 2016 NFL season.
