Barker Waiting for Contact
It's been a tumultuous couple of weeks for Sandy (UT) Alta wide receiver Ammon Barker. Two weeks ago, he heard the news that his main recruiter and potential position coach at UCLA, Marques Tuiasosopo, had decided to take the quarterback coaching job at Washington. Then, as Barker has tried to solidify his commitment to UCLA, he hasn't been able to get a hold of the coaching staff. "I just haven't heard anything from UCLA," Barker said. "It's the school I chose, and I still want to go there, but I haven't heard anything from the coaches." Barker committed to UCLA in early November, just a few days after receiving an offer. Tuiasosopo, though, was the only coach who ever had much contact with him, and when he left, Barker did not have a ready contact remaining on the staff. He said he has spoken to Tuiasosopo about the situation. "He said that he didn't really know what the situation was at UCLA, in terms of whether I still had an offer," Barker said. "He said he'd look into whether there were any spots for me up at Washington, but no guarantees." For now, that leaves Barker's recruitment a bit up in the air, and he said that he may officially decommit from UCLA if he doesn't hear from the coaches soon. In the case that he does decommit, he has a few options available to him. "I'm talking with Hawaii, San Diego State, and Colorado State," Barker said. "I'm still trying to figure out where and when I'm going to visit, but it looks like I should look around at those schools." The three star receiver said that he'd still be open to coming to UCLA if the staff made contact with him, but for now he's considering all his options and operating as if he'll need to find another destination for the fall.
