The newest Blazer in action

Nick Mullens had been committed to Jacksonville State University for some time, but a coaching change and increased interest from other school led him to switching his commitment to UAB after an official visit.

After taking an official visit to nearby UAB over the weekend, Hoover (Ala.) Spain Park quarterback Nick Mullens knew where he wanted to play his college football.

"I'm now committed to UAB," he informed Scout on Sunday.

Mullens, who was under-the-radar for most of his high school career despite great numbers at Spain Park, was previously committed to Jacksonville State University. Though proximity to home was a plus for both programs, the Blazers afforded more of that rare opportunity Mullens coveted.

"It's an opportunity to turn around a program in my hometown," he added.

The class of 2013 standout was selected to the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic in December, and led Team Alabama to a big win over Mississippi. Take a look at Mullens' performance from the game in the exclusive FOX Sports NEXT highlights below.
