Family ties for Ryan George
Ryan George, a senior defensive end at Stephenson High School (GA), made his verbal commitment to Georgia Southern before the start of his season. As his recruitment gained momentum through the fall, George announced that he would take his official visits and explore other options. After his official visit to Georgia Southern on January 11th, George says his verbal commitment is now solid. "With everybody else, it's felt like strictly business," George said of his recruitment. "At Georgia Southern, it's an entirely different deal. It's like family." The "family" feel that George experienced doesn't end with his future teammates and coaching staff, either. "My cousin, William Bussey, is already committed," George said of the Thomson High School (GA) running back. "We're going to room together and everything. "Ever since we were kids, we've talked about playing football together in college," George continued. "The day has finally come." George and Bussey took their official visit together as well. "We had a great time," George said of the trip to Georgia Southern. "We hung out together every night we were there. He kept mentioning that we were finally getting the chance to play together as teammates." While his family tie to his future home is an added bonus, George says that his cousin's commitment did not play a role in his own. "It wasn't a dominant factor in either of our recruiting processes," George said. "The main objective for me has been my education. Second, [Bussey and I] may have felt at home in two different places. But Georgia Southern presented the campus so well. We both bonded to it." During his official visit, George was looking to solidify the feeling he left with on his unofficial visit earlier in the year. "I was just looking to see how I felt on campus and around the other players...my future teammates," George explained. "When I first went down there for my unofficial, I already felt at home. But on my official visit, it made me feel even more at home. "The coaches treated me and my family with such great respect." George's future coaching staff has already visited his Stephenson High School since the official visit. "The coaches came by my school [on Tuesday] and saw me," George said. "Everything is just perfect for me." George does not have any further official visits scheduled, although Wake Forest will visit Stephenson High School to see George on Wednesday.
