Mixon Mixes In Unofficial

The race is on already for the services of Oakley (Calif.) Freedom running back Joe Mixon.

The Scout 300 prospect for 2014 is the top back in the West, and over the weekend, Mixon made a quick trip to nearby Cal for an unofficial visit.

"I took an unofficial visit this weekend to Cal and got to meet with Coach (Pierre) Ingram, the running backs coach," said Mixon.

Mixon was offered by Cal when Jeff Tedford was still the head coach, and Ron Gould was the running backs coach, but Mixon said the new coaching staff reconfirmed that office to him.

"Yeah, they told me I definitely still have an offer," said Mixon.

Mixon got a chance to see the whole campus while there.

"I met the defensive line coach (Barry Sacks) and we toured the whole stadium and facilities," said Mixon.

He'd previously met new head coach Sonny Dykes, and had a quick meeting with him in his office.

Mixon was joined by his friend, Nzuzi Webster, a 2014 athlete from Antioch (Calif.) Deer Valley, on the visit.

"Over all, it was a good time," said Mixon.

Mixon has offers from Arizona State, California, Colorado, Michigan, Oregon State, Utah and Washington.
