Phillips checks out Nebraska JR Day

Millard West defensive end Harrison Phillips went to Lincoln with dreams of picking up an offer on Nebraska Junior Day. Did it come true?

Harrison Phillips from Omaha (Nebr.) Millard West has seen his star on the rise. Phillips made an impression in San Antonio for the U.S. Army All-American combine and he was in Lincoln today for Nebraska's invite-only junior day.

"It went really good," Phillips said. "It was a long day. I had a wrestling meet and was up at 6:00 this morning. I had three matches and went 3-0. I am up to 23-0 I think." "What I really liked about today was the attention that I got from the coaching staff especially Coach Rick Kaczenski. They only had two defensive lineman in today, me and Peyton Newell, so we got a lot of time."

Phillips got a chance to really sit down with the coaches today. Phillips was going to Lincoln in hopes of pulling in a Nebraska offer. He didn't come away with one, but he got some good reasons as to why and some advice.

"He told me why they haven't offered, but said that he and the rest of the staff were really impressed with my film. He was very direct with me and I liked that. They said that I have really developed a lot lately.

"He didn't really come right out and say why I haven't gotten an offer or when I might, but he said to stay patient. He said that they have been doing a lot of work recently with the 2013 class too."

Despite the reasoning and the advice Phillips admits that not picking up an offer this weekend was a bit of a disappointment. He really wished that he could have hear the staff tell him that they wanted him to be a Husker.

"It was discouraging to some extent. I pray that I would wake up tomorrow with an offer from Nebraska. I had dreamed that Coach Bo Pelini would run out and offer me this weekend."

Phillips has been to Lincoln a number of times. He says that this weekend was mostly about time with the coaches. He also said that he got a great chance to see the future dorms for athletes.

"It was really about the time with the coaches and to talk about the offer. Other than that, we got a virtual tour of the new student-athlete dorms and they are going to be amazing. That will be a big part of why I potentially go to Nebraska."
