Johnson Talks New Mexico State

Kahuku (HI) safety Kawehena Johnson discusses his recent commitment to New Mexico State...

Kahuku (HI) safety Kawehena Johnson took an official visit to New Mexico State in late December and automatically felt as if he fit in the program.

"I've committed when I was on the trip. I really liked how they run their program. It's a program you want to be around," he said.

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound prospect really felt that the trip sealed his decision.

"They have a great coaching staff and the community is really behind the program. Definitely the coaching staff, though. They made me feel at home," he said.

Johnson, a Polynesian All-American, has spoken with the staff about their plans for incorporating him into the Aggies' defense.

"They said they want me to play deep, so I'll probably only be playing safety. Coverage is my greatest strength on the field," he said.

Johnson is eager to join the program and will head down to campus soon after graduation.

"I'll probably go to campus the first week of summer and take some classes and start work outs," he said.
