Beilein: Unselfish Play Paces U-M (w/video)

If Michigan’s win over Northwestern taught us anything, it’s that this group of Wolverines has truly set aside personal goals for team success. At 20-1, it seems to be working. **with postgame Beilein video**
14 to two. A nearly impeccable assist to turnover ratio Michigan produced in their 68-46 win over
Wednesday night. A feat that left even John Beilein impressed afterwards.
“That may be a record,” said Beilein. “I didn’t pick that one up and that’s usually one of the first things I look at too.”
“There’s been times we’ve had two turnovers over a time period. I’m sure in the first minute we might have had that when we were playing in Columbus.”
’s eight assists, Michigan’s unselfish ways -- consistently finding the best shot, not just a good shot -- contributed to the Wolverines race to an early lead against the Wildcats, a big reason four players hit double figures.
“The assist numbers were really something,” said Beilein. “Wasn’t it 10-zero (in the first half)? It just hit singles and Trey set the tone early. He had a couple that he found Nik, he found Tim, he found the big man -- he did a tremendous job.”
For a group of highly talented, nationally recruited kids that have the potential to have productive careers in the NBA, this kind of basketball shouldn’t go unnoticed or be taken for granted among basketball junkies -- it should be celebrated.
“There’s a lot of sacrifice going on out there,” said Beilein. “And that is hard in today’s world for kids to sacrifice for the team, and we have moments where I think that’s very difficult for our guys, but at the same time they most of the time choose to make the right decision.”
Sitting out Michigan’s win over Northwestern, Jordan Morgan will continue to be evaluated in the next couple of days leading up to Saturday night’s showdown at No. 3 Indiana. Beilein did say Morgan hadn’t participated in any live contact drills since injuring his ankle Sunday at Illinois.
