UM Keeping Tabs on Lee

Recruiting has been moving at a steady pace Indianapolis Lawrence Central LB, Brandon Lee. The 6-3, 205-pounder has noticed a consistent rise I attention coming his way from a number of schools, including the University of Michigan.

“So far everything is going really good,” Lee reported.  “I picked up an offer from Louisville recently and there have been a lot of schools stopping by.  With Michigan I’ve been talking to Coach Mallory and Coach Smith pretty often.  I’ve been speaking with them a lot for a while now and they stopped by the school a couple times in the last month or so.”

Lee hopes to soon return the visit favor.  His lone trip to Ann Arbor came last the summer, but once was all it took for the Maize & Blue to make a strong impression.

“When I went up there the campus was beautiful,” he recalled.  “A lot of campuses look nice, but Michigan’s looked really nice.  And I’m high on academics, and their academic center has really influenced me on them.  I like that a lot.  Then with football and everything… I really like Michigan.”

Lately one of the primary topics of conversations between the Wolverines and the Hoosier State standout has been where things stand with a potential scholarship offer.

“Right now they’re waiting until they are all on campus so they can see what day they want me to come back,” Lee said.  “Mainly they have just been speaking about a possible offer sometime in the next couple of weeks depending on how many players they are going to take in the next class at my position.  They said they see me playing at more of a SAM backer.”

“I feel like they’re being straightforward with me, telling me exactly how everything is going.  They said they want to finalize the recruiting class in 2014 so they won’t have as many scholarships to offer that they have in the last two classes.  After they finalize that they will sit and watch my film with Coach Mattison and Coach Hoke so they can come to a decision.”

Currently Lee reports offers from Indiana, Ball State, Purdue, Kentucky, and Iowa, but believes that number could balloon quickly based on strong overtures from Northwestern, North Carolina State, Michigan State, and Illinois.  While pleased with the fact that so many schools within close proximity to home have emerged as options, Lee made it clear that distance won’t be a strong factor in his choice.

“It would be something kind of cool to stay close, but I don’t really mind going away if I have to,” he said  It’s about doing what’s best for me and my family.”

No favorite has yet emerged among his list of early suitors, but based on his decision timeline Lee doesn’t plan to wait very long to begin assembling a leaderboard.

“I plan on graduating early in December or January and I kind want to (make a decision) and have it done before my season,” he stated.  “That kind of just depends on how everything picks up for me.  Depending on that, I’ll make it before or after the season.”

“Right now I’m kind of just sitting back and letting it all marinate right now.”
