Junior running back receiving Irish interest

Notre Dame stopped by the home of Oakley (Calif.) Freedom running back Joe Mixon last week, and Mixon discusses where he stands with the Irish.

The No. 20 ranked running back in 2014, Joe Mixon, has seen his stock skyrocket in the past month, and Notre Dame is the school to most recently express interest in the talented Oakley (Calif.) Freedom prospect.

"(Mike)Denbrock dropped by last week," Mixon said of the Irish wide receivers coach. "It went really well, and they are coming back soon. They said they have to check with Notre Dame's academic office to see if I'm taking the right classes, and then I think they are going to offer me."

Mixon touts over 19 offers, and he hopes to add more to that list soon.

"I'm hearing the most from Florida State, Miami, Georgia Tech, Arizona, UCLA and USC," he said. "I don't know a lot about Notre Dame as a school, but if I got an offer, that would make me really happy."

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound prospect is familiar, however, with Notre Dame's style of play.

"I like how Notre Dames utilizes their running backs," Mixon said. "They get the ball in their hands. Whatever school gets me is going to get a great player, and I know I have a lot to improve."

Mixon is taking the recruiting process one step at a time and remains open to all schools that have expressed interest.

"I don't have any favorites right now," Mixon said. "If I get invited to the Army All-American game, I will announce my decision there."

Mixon plans to attend the University of Washington's junior day this spring, but otherwise, he has no visits planned.

He is ranked as a three-star prospect by Scout.com.
