ShowMeNext 2014: Kansas City Lineman Rising

ShowMeMizzou.com introduces you to another rising class of 2014 prospect from the college pipeline school of Lee's Summit West as he talks about his early recruitment and his family connection to the University of Missouri.

The second high school football game of the 2012 season I was at scouting was the Staley @ Lee's Summit West game that had such a big build up surrounding it that ESPN was there to televise it. Partly because of the previous year's 4 overtime instant classic from the previous year, but also because of the D1 talented that was committed already and future D1 talent also that would be on display.

Standing on the sidelines watching the action, I could not help but notice a massive right tackle substituting  on plays and series who caught my attention with his size, athleticism and ability. That player was 2014 OT Kevin Pendleton 6'5" 305 5.2 forty, who has transferred in from Lincoln Prep.

Pendelton went on to eventually take over the starting role at right tackle and have an outstanding year. So much so that colleges have been showing a good deal of early interest in the big lineman.

I spoke with him recently about his recruitment.

"I love it it, said Pendleton."I love playing football and I am excited about the opportunity it might afford me to go to college,so I like hearing from schools and the recruiting process so far."

Kevin listed off the schools who he has been hearing from and the ones showing the most interest recently.

"The main ones have been Missouri, Nebraska, Arkansas,Illinois,Kansas,Kansas State,Oklahoma,Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois," said Pendleton. "OU,Mizzou, Nebraska,Arkansas, Illinois and KU have all been by the school and spoken to Coach Boehm about me,"

Kevin was able to break down both his thoughts on some of the particular schools as well as share what he is hearing from them regarding their interest level in him.

Missouri-"They saw my highlight tape and liked it. I have talked with Coach Hill and they invited me to their junior day on March 2nd. He said he'd like me to meet and talk to Coach Pinkel and the offensive line coach, My Dad went to Missouri and I like their engineering program. I just wanna know more and see what they have to offer. See how they do things there. I watch them all the time and I hope to check them out this spring.I plan on attending their spring game."

Nebraska-"They also saw my tape and really liked it. They invited me to a junior day and want to get me evaluated by the coaches and to talk to them. I like the way they have made progress since being down. I have the Big 10 network on my college football package. I am a big college football fan and I've watched them on TV."

Arkansas-"It seems like every time a schools shows up to find out about me that Arkansas shows up too. It seems like they are really interested.I've talked to them and they say they want to find a way to get me to camp with them. They want to show me the new plans for their weight room and athletic facility.

Kansas-"They got my tape and want to see more of me and have me meet the coaches.:

Kansas State-"They want me to camp with them and attend their junior day."

Pendleton told me that schools so far have all mention him playing tackle on the next level. Something he would prefer to do as well.

"Right tackle is very natural for me. When I arrived from Lincoln Prep, Nathan Hall was a senior and the starter there. So, Coach Boehm eased me in as I learned things and we split some until I eventually became the starter. I think tackle will be best for me in college," he said.

Kevin also ran down some criteria that he will be looking at to help him in his decision making process to find a college.

"Academics are important and come first. I want to study business or engineering. Probably some form of civil engineering. I also want to play in a good conference against good competition. And coaching will be a huge factor. My coach here told me the biggest thing for him in college was his position coach and how advises you and plays such a big role in your development,"said Pendleton.

And as far as a timeframe for when he sees himself making a decision?

"It probably won't be until after my senior season,"said Pendleton."When I make a commitment it will be final. I don't want there to be a situation to pop up where I think I need to look at other schools or take visits after I commit, so I will take my time and make sure."

The big offensive linemen is very smart and uses his intelligence on the field as well as his footwork and quickness to his advantage. His strength right now is his blocking in run sets, but he is coming along quickly with his pass blacking in pass sets and has the tools to excel there.

Look for Kevin Pendleton to be added to the ever growing list of 1 signees from Lee's Summit West.
