DB Ryan Carter Profile
It was shortly after noon on Wednesday when Dabo Swinney announced that Carter would be joining the Tigers' 2013 signing class.
"It was like a sigh of relief, really, because the whole process has been crazy," Carter told CUTigers on Thursday. "It just felt real good to finally sign with them and just have everything work out the way it was supposed to. It felt real good."
For Carter, there was little suspense on Wednesday. He had received the offer from Clemson while on campus in late January for an official visit.
"I knew when I took my official visit. I got to sit down with coach Swinney. I knew I had an offer then," Carter said. "We just didn't want things to get out of hand, so we just waited until signing day for me to sign and what not.
"I knew I was all good when I took my official."
And he knew, upon receiving the offer, that Clemson would be his destination. Carter could play a couple of different positions once he arrives to Tigertown.
"I talked to coach [Brent] Venables a little bit. He's just saying I'm really versatile. I could play some corner. I could play some safety," Carter said.
It just really depends on where my weight's at when the season starts."
At Grayson High School [Loganville, Ga.], Carter played safety.
As a senior, he had 70 tackles and four interceptions, two of which went for touchdowns.
The season before, Carter had 70 tackles and two interceptions.
When describing his game, one word came to Carter's mind -- physical.
"I love coming down on the run. That's my game. I'm more physical. I can cover, too. But, if I had to describe myself, I'd say I'm more the physical type," he said.
