On Paper, Tough Schedule Awaits

Then again, the Packers were supposed to have one of the easiest schedules in 2012 but faced eight 10-win teams. In 2013, the Packers have road games against both of this year's Super Bowl teams as well as the 2011 champion.

On paper, the Green Bay Packers face one of the toughest schedules in the league next season.

Then again, the Packers were supposed to face one of the easiest schedules in the league this season.

According to data released by the league on Thursday, the Packers face the sixth-toughest schedule in the league in 2013, based on those teams' 2012 records. Green Bay's 2013 foes finished a cumulative 136-119-1 in 2012.

What does that mean?

Maybe nothing.

The teams on the Packers' 2012 schedule finished a cumulative 120-136 in 2011. That allegedly gave them the second-easiest schedule in the league. At season's end, however, those teams finished 129-125-2, with eight matchups against teams that won at least 10 games.

In 2013, Green Bay has the home-and-home series against Chicago (10-6), Minnesota (10-6) and Detroit (4-12), home games against Atlanta (13-3), Cleveland (5-11), Philadelphia (4-12), Pittsburgh (8-8) and Washington (10-6), and road games against Baltimore (10-6), Cincinnati (10-6), Dallas (8-8), New York Giants (9-7) and San Francisco (11-4-1). That means the Packers have nine games against 10-win teams, including road games against both of this year's Super Bowl teams (the Ravens and 49ers) as well as last year's champion (the Giants).
