North Miami High defensive back Troy McCollum (6'1,170) is part of a very good group of Florida athletes that signed with the UL 2013 Signing Class. McCollum was ranked no. 16 in the Miami Herald list of the top Miami-Dade County recruits. He had 31 tackles (24 solo) with an interception as a senior. The Miami native had over 21 offer over the past year, but coming to a final decision was a difficult process.
"I committed to Florida International early last year and Coach Christobal," Troy stated. "When Coach Christobal was let go, I was devastated and made the decision to decommit from FIU and look at other schools."
Later in the process UL, Indiana, Hawaii, Utah State and Western Kentucky emerged as the front runners for his services.
"When Coach Saunders started talking to me about UL and I watched them play Florida on tv, I decided it was a school I wanted to visit," McCollum explained. "I'd never seen the campus so I had no idea about the facilities are the size of the community of Lafayette."
McCullom's close friendship with fello Floridian and recruit Semion Thomas was also part of his decision.
"We both had committed to FIU and wanted to play together in college," Troy stated. "When we decommitted and opened our recruitment back up, we kept our agreement to play together in college and visited the same programs. Once we came back from our visit to ULL, we talked about it and made the decision to play together for the Cajuns.
