Florida QB is one to watch

Brandon Vicens is a talented dual threat quarterback prospect from Archbishop McCarthy and he talked to Scout about the latest.

Archbishop McCarthy won seven games last season, and made it into the state playoffs. Unfortunately for them, they ran into what many thought was the state's best overall team in 2012 -- Miami Central. The Rockets knocked McCarthy from the playoffs, and in doing so it ended a tremendous junior season by quarterback Brandon Vicens.

At 6-feet and 180 pounds, Vicens was excellent on the field in 2012. He finished the season with 1,142 yards passing and eight touchdowns. He added 942 yards and 10 scores on the ground. In addition to his impact on offense, he also made 45 tackles and picked off three passes while playing in the defensive secondary.

Vicens, who carries a 3.6 GPA in the classroom, is hoping to put his name on the recruiting map real soon.

"I just made my highlight film and now I'm hoping to back from some schools on it," Vicens said. "I thought I had a pretty good season and good video so we'll see what happens."

While he doesn't have any scholarship offers yet, it's likely only a matter of time for him. He mentioned a few schools he has interest in right now.

"Texas A&M would be number one," he said. "With Johnny Manziel having the year he did, I think that's a perfect system for what I do. I'm that type of player. Next would be North Carolina, Georgia, and Oregon. I like all three of those schools as well."

The standout quarterback prospect talked about some things he'll be looking for when choosing a school.

"I'm going to look at the way the coaching staff is with their players, how I fit into their offense, how the school is, and how the weather is," he said.

Stay on Scout for more coverage of Vicens and other quarterbacks from around the area in the near future.
