North Carolina TE checking out Louisville

Raleigh, N.C., Ravenscroft tight end Avery Edwards is one of a couple of dozen scholarship offers the University of Louisville staff has handed out this week. Edwards will be one of more than 50 prospects on campus Saturday for Junior Day.

Raleigh, N.C., Ravenscroft tight end Avery Edwards picked up his seventh scholarship offer earlier in the week – from Louisville – and didn't waste any time coming to check out the campus. He's attending Saturday's Junior Day.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Edwards said he received the Junior Day invitation and then talked with tight ends coach Sherrone Moore.

"Coach Moore said they are very interested and wanted to offer," Edwards said. "So, I am looking forward to seeing the facilities and everything."

Edwards also has offers from Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Wake Forest. He said he "thinks an eighth is close," noting Florida State has been showing a lot of interest.

But he said the U of L offer has him interested to see the school.

"I know they are going to the ACC and they just won a big bowl," he said. "Coach Moore said they always like to put two and three tight ends on the field and they're a major part of the offense. I'm excited to learn more."

Edwards finished his junior season with 490 yards receiving, 100 rushing, and six total touchdowns.

Edwards has one connection already to Louisville – Anton Gill. He was a basketball teammate with the U of L signee Gill before he left for prep school.

"I texted him when I got the offer," Edwards said. "He told me just to go ahead and commit, that I didn't need to know any more."
