Hayes Interested in UTSA

Had it not been for an MCL injury early on in district play, this defensive end would've easily cracked our first edition of the 2014 Alamo City Top 20. With good size, speed and a motor that is coveted from a d-lineman, Larry Coker and his staff have been in contact.

One of the most intriguing local prospects in the 2014 class is Brandeis defensive end Corey Hayes. There is no doubt about his physical abilities. He stands a legit 6'2.5" 220lbs and before his injury he reported a sub 4.7 time.

In getting ready for next season, he recently ran a 40 yard dash and came in at a 4.7. Hayes is already working on strength and conditioning making sure he's a 110% ready for his senior campaign.

Programs have already started to reach out and make contact. SMU, Boise State, Missouri, and others have shown interest. The hometown 'Runners are one of those programs as the coaching staff has been by Brandeis to catch a glimpse of Corey. UTSA did extend a junior day invite but unfortunately he wasn't able to attend.

Hayes says that academics is number one for him in looking for the right program. He's not completely sure, but thinks that he'll be looking to major with a degree in the medical field. If UTSA were to pick up their efforts, they do hold an advantage. Hayes would like to stay to close to home. If the option isn't presented, he's willing to consider all avenues, even those that may arise out of state.

There hasn't been any word on whether the 'Runners will hold a second junior day, but if so, Hayes has made it clear that he would like to attend.
